Welcome! This site showcases design options and offered a ranking poll for bridge designs and monument tower ornamentation of the City Park Lake bridge in Baton Rouge. The online survey is now closed, but you may continue through this website to examine the illustrations. This is a project of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Overview

As Interstate 10 passes through Baton Rouge it crosses City Park Lake where motorists enjoy scenic views over the water, including glimpses of the LSU campus to the south and of City Park golf course to the north. The I-10 Improvements Project will add an additional travel lane to the interstate in both directions in this area, and the I-10 bridge over City Park Lake will be replaced as part of this project. Recognizing the visual impact this “gateway” location has for our city, DOTD has identified this bridge to receive signature elements to its appearance.

In the following slides, you will be presented four different designs for the bridge, each including three views: a birds-eye view, a ground level view, and an end-on view or cross section as if you were standing underneath the bridge. You’ll rank your favorites. For all of the bridge designs, a set of monumental towers are proposed - one at each bridge corner. These reinforce the “gateway” effect of the new bridge. You will be presented three design options for these tower monuments, featuring both daytime and nightime views as the towers will be illuminated.

Assumptions

As you review the images understand these assumptions:

  • Renderings shown are for illustrative purposes and will be refined during detailed design.
  • Choose based on appearance. Assume there is no significant cost difference between the designs.
  • From the top of the road deck all bridge designs are the same (except for tower designs.)
  • View and rank the bridge designs first, then rank your tower design preference.

Top Deck View The road deck view for motorists on I-10 is the same for all designs, except for tower ornamentation.
